Democratic Institutions

Central to the Program is understanding the crucial and overlapping roles our institutions play in safeguarding our democracy.  Scholars study the limitations and competencies of the various institutions – the executive, legislature, judiciary, the market, the press.  Throughout the Program, Scholars engage these institutions through the lens of comparative institutional analysis, social movement theory, public choice theory, and other modes of analysis as they explore viable avenues for reform.
